22.01. Wharncliffe gloom - OR what climbers do in the rain?!

With conditions not looking favourable, the mission to find dry rock was on! Over a coffee and some guidebook reading, we tried our luck at Wharncliffe Edge on the northern outskirts of Sheffield. Also, as this is a venue we both are not overly familiar with, exploring the area for future endeavours seemed to be a worthwhile alternative if the weather did not improve. It did not improve!

With damp conditions and the prospect of dry rock non existent, the kit was stashed away quickly and the crag explored. This turned out to be a great opportunity to also test the wicking and breathing properties of our latest DECATHLON purchases. In particular, the Bionassay softshell was just right for this sort of weather.
